Women of the Bible Progress from Quarter-Inch Capers

I had some free time Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning and decided to take advantage of it. I’m getting anxious to see some real progress on the Women of the Bible quilts. It’s been slow going on sewing all the blocks. I got a few done though. The Syro Phoenician woman

and Rebekah.

I try to keep extra pieces cut for the filler blocks so I can make at least a few during each sewing session, so those are coming along as well.

I got out the section A pieces I have assembled so I could make sure ...

To-Do-List Tuesday 11-26-24 from Quarter-Inch Capers

This is the last to-do list for November. It has been busy, and of course, that will continue through Christmas. I am grateful for the busyness as it keeps me from being too sad or lonely. The flip side of that is that I have to be mindful of not over-scheduling myself and getting completely overwhelmed. I had a lot of activities this past week, but I only had put three things on my to-do list, so it wasn't too bad.

1) Continue working on Women of the Bible quilt. Yes. I am continuing to enjoy doing these blocks ...

To-Do-List Tuesday 11-19-2024 from Quarter-Inch Capers

We got some rain yesterday. Not a lot, but we are so grateful for anything that’s wet. I pray we get more this week. I’m doing okay on my to-do list. Not setting any records, but making some steady progress. Yesterday and Sunday were totally unproductive. I was lazy and unmotivated, but other than that, I did okay.

1) Continue to work on Women of the Bible quilt. Yes. I got Section “A” put together and worked a little on Section “B”.

2) Work on Gloria's hearts. No on this one.
3) A Quilting Life BOM. Yes ...

To-Do-List Tuesday 11-12-2024 from Quarter-Inch Capers

So much for thinking most of my days would be free to sew and quilt! My granddaughter's volleyball playoffs changed all of that. I'm sorry to say they didn't win the regional match, although they played well.

They played five sets, and lost by one. It was the same team they lost the regional match to last year, so that was doubly disappointing.

I got a little bit done on my "to-do" list, but not as much as I had hoped.

1) Get section "A" of the Women of the Bible quilt put together. Make some of ...

To-Do-List Tuesday 11-5-2024 from Quarter-Inch Capers

Hello, Tuesday friends. I had a good week, but it was busy with not a lot of time for hands-on work. My list was pretty short, so I made reasonably good progress.

1) Another Women of the Bible block and more connector blocks. Yes.

I am almost ready to put these two sections together (after I make one more block), and then I can move on the the "B" section.

2) Cut some more shirts for the Journey quilt. Yes. Unfortunately, I still need more.

3) Do some embroidery or crochet during my Houston stay. A little bit of embroidery ...

To-Do-List Tuesday 10-29-24 from Quarter-Inch Capers

It's hard to believe October is almost over. It has passed pretty fast, but then again, the whole year has just zoomed by. I got a lot done this last week compared to the weeks when I have a lot of appointments or travel.

1) Bind Karen's Christmas quilt. Yes.

2) Make Gloria some hearts from her husband's shirts. Yes.

He was a painter, and there is no shortage of the Sherwin Williams shirts. I still need to make some more from some other shirts she brought me.
3) Make samples for guild workshop. Yes.

4) Spend ...

To-Do-List Tuesday 10-22-24 from Quarter-Inch Capers

It's been another hectic week. I think I underestimated how much time I was going to need to spend on Lutherfest; not to mention, how tired I would be afterwards. It was pretty much all day Saturday and Sunday. The rest of the week was broken up by doctor appointments plus volleyball and soccer games, so not a lot got done on my list.

1) Women of the Bible block plus some filler blocks. Yes.
This one is Delilah. I also got some of the filler blocks done.

Four patches plus some flying geese. Once the hst's are ...

To-Do-List Tuesday 10-15-24 from Quarter-Inch Capers

What a week it’s been. I am sincerely glad it’s over. I lost a couple of important things, one of which I still haven’t found, and I got the dreaded call from the CPA to let me know how much I owe on my income tax. It was much more than I expected, which is never good news. I was able, though, to get some sewing done, and my list looks pretty good.

1) A Quilting Life October BOM. Yes.

2) Make another Women of the Bible block. Yes.
Since I am doing a duplicate quilt, I ...

To-Do-List Tuesday 10-8-2024 from Quarter-Inch Capers

This is an update to the list from a couple of weeks ago. I was on vacation after I made the list, and then we had the quilt show, which kept me from working on my usual stuff. I am pretty much back in the groove now, and this is where things ended up.

1) Quilt and bind the raffle quilt. Yes.

It’s done and out of the shop.

2) Quilt three customer quilts. Yes, I did. Here's a Christmas panel:

I got Janice's Women of the Bible quilt done, and it's a big one.

And ...

Women of the Bible Quilt from Quarter-Inch Capers

I had a chance to think about how I want to do my WOTB quilt, and after much back and forth, I decided to use a pack of solids I got recently.

They are all half-yard cuts, and I have a couple yards of the border fabric (on the bottom of the picture). I think it needs more pink and orange and maybe a dark blue, so I will order some more colors, including lights to use in the backgrounds.

For reference, this is what the finished quilt should look like without the borders.

I am going to do two ...

Scrappy Saturday from Quarter-Inch Capers

The weather was a little cooler yesterday. I think we had a small front as it was also windy with some scattered showers.

It is nice, but it won’t last.

I got a lot done this week, but I wasn’t in the mood to do much yesterday, so I drove over to Yorktown. I recently found out about the Women of the Bible Quilt blocks; apparently the patterns were released about eight years ago, but I just recently saw one, and I really liked it.

It turns out the Yorktown quilt shop owner has made four of them ...

Sunday Meditation: Are You Grateful? from Patchwork Sampler Blog

Recently, my husband and I were having a discussion where I was laying out all the reasons we should sell our house and move. I pointed out all the things I don’t like about the house;  the rooms are too small, there’s no wall space, the kitchen is dated, the dining room is wasted space, this needs to be replaced, that needs to be fixed…you get the picture, and how it would be impossible to fix all these flaws to make it my dream home. After a few minutes, Jim stopped me and said, “You are not ...

Sunday Meditation: Waiting from Patchwork Sampler Blog

How are you at waiting?

This past week I was waiting in line at Walmart. I was only getting a few things but decided to go through a line with a live cashier rather than the self-checkout. There was only one lane open and the woman in front of me had a cart heaped over and spilling out with merchandise. I was not in a hurry and since it was one of only a handful of times I have gone into a store in the past year, the wait was a little therapeutic.

I was not in line long, however ...

Sunday Meditation: Making a Contribution from Patchwork Sampler Blog

John C Maxwell quote

For some reason, Jon Acuff’s writing really resonates with me. I have read all his books at least once and his latest, Soundtracks, is a gem (look for a review of this book very soon). Anyway, Jon recently posted on his Instagram account (@jonacuff) an offhand remark made by John C. Maxwell.  You probably recognize John C. Maxwell’s name, as he is a well-known pastor, speaker, and author of dozens of books on leadership.

John Maxwell was asked, “What’s the first thought you had when you woke up?” and he replied, “I can’t wait to add ...

Sunday Meditation: Praise God from Patchwork Sampler Blog

Isaiah 12:5

The Sunday Meditation topic for April is praise. There are many ways to praise God and I will touch on a few of them over the next three weeks. First of all, what is praise? Dictionary.com defines praise as “the expression of approval or admiration for someone or something.” When we praise God, we exalt him for his character and who he is. We express adoration and wonder for all he created. We thank him for bringing calm in the midst of chaos.  We glorify his name.

One of the easiest ways to praise God is through prayer. Often ...

What's on My Design Wall and My Mind from Quilt Crazie

Welcome 2017.   Yes, I know I am late at welcoming in the new year on my blog as well as I have not written on here for quite some time.  Life just gets in the way of blogging.  Family definitely has taken a front row in my priorities.  I have decided I will blog and share when time allows.  There has also been one other issue that has kept me from blogging and that is unkind words from readers.  I know others have dealt with it, including one of my favorite bloggers, Bonnie Hunter.  I wasn't prepared to deal ...
